Brad Blogspeed, Facebooked!
Full Disclosure
Virtual Reality is Virtual
I bet you never thought I'd post a country song to this blog, right? I mean, many readers have never met me and have no idea what musical tastes I might have, but it's usually a safe bet that most rational people from towns of a population over 5,000 don't listen to southern twang. I don't usually, rest assured, but to those who enjoy it please feel free to play the following clip while you read on.
One Me for All of Thee
I had this friend. Let's call him Daryl. (especially because that was his name)
I Hope I'm Just in the Red Square....
I was going to write a quick post scolding myself for being so narcissistic to think anyone would be interested in a 'life-blog', when I came across this awesome picture.
So yes, there's no denying that I obviously like the sound of my own keyboard, and shamelessly self promote my crap all over the internet. I'm confident that there are dozens of Facebook friends that have used the 'Hide' button on me, and many more who wonder who, exactly, I think I am.
We'll put aside my professional self-promotion for awhile, as I'm sure even the harshest critic would concede that a freelancer in my position must hock their wares, and social media is a great way to get that done. I can't tell you the number of gigs I've landed through Facebook, Vimeo, etc.
However this blog is certainly no form of advertising, so at this point I can be plainly accused of social-self-promotion. I'm sure to many efforts such as these seem vain, pompous, and akin to public masturbation.
Perhaps that's true, although sadly not nearly as satisfying.
Look, I work from home and don't get to talk to people all day. I also have a built-in, perhaps genetic need for self expression. And like many other 'artist-types' I just have to get it out there. Ask other people who do what I do, we're usually kind of suckers for attention.
I won't claim that there's anything more noble involved than that. However I will maintain that on the graph above I sit proudly in the red space.
Stalking just isn't my thing, because you can't stalk a person and then turn around and show them a picture you drew. That's kind of contrary to the whole idea of stalking.
And ADHD? Nope. I could perhaps be accused of Attention Surplus Disorder, as my wife often does (although not in those terms) when I waste an entire evening on Wikipedia trying to learn all about the mating habits of the Monarch Butterfly.
I won't pretend I'm the kind of humble that people want you to be. I also won't deny that I'm filled with equal measures of self loathing. My considerable internet-output is the result of all these things, along with an insatiable need to express myself. I won't deny it it, and I won't defend myself either.
But I also won't stop.
