Teen Brain

Teen Brain

A short film for teen mental health

Today I'm very excited to share my latest project, a short I directed and animated for Egg Studios. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Teen Brain, a piece that (we hope) will be a humorous and informative trip through the maturing mind.

I was approached about Teen Brain quite some time ago, and despite some scheduling conflicts that might have jeopardized my involvement, I made it very clear to everyone that I wanted this job... badly.

Animating another world

Sascha
Globosome FMX Trailer
by Sascha Geddert

It's been awhile since I've featured some motion graphics on this site. I suppose that's because I'm trying as hard as heck to keep the subject matter within a more constrained range of topics, lest my readers begin to wonder if I'm suffering from some severe version of attention deficit disorder.

Absolutely Awesome Motion Graphics

Mint2
Canadian Royal Mint - "Parks Canada"
by Y&R (full credits below)

If anyone's an avid reader of this site (cue the sound of a hollow wind) they may remember my recent take down of a friend for his love of coin collecting. And yet here I am now, showing you nothing other than a commercial for coin collecting. What gives?

BBC Knowledge: Best 2D Motion Graphics Ever?

Knowledge
BBC Knowledge
by Mauro Rader via Weareseventeen Studios

I've featured weareseventeen's work before, but this one simply blew me away. It was animated by Mauro Rader, and it's an excellent example of where 2D graphics are capable of going. Sure, calling anything the 'best ever' is often hyperbole, but forgive me my enthusiasm. I'm hot off the heals of watching this stunning piece of motion graphics, and it got me a little excited.

Animating American Patriotism

Getty2
Gettysburg Address
by Adam Gault

With all the rigamarole going on with the American economy over the last few years, our neighbours to the south could be forgiven if their confidence was a little shaken. It just seems like every day it's more bad news, and even to those of who used to get just a tiny bit sick of over-the-top U.S. patriotism, it's no fun to watch.

Dancing Robots

Robots
Here's some fun work from Double G Studios that makes me smile.  It's been awhile since I've posted motions graphics work on this site, which is my own field after all, so it felt like the time was right to go back to the well.

Sally Soundtrack - Tommy's Successor Is In Theaters!

Sally
The sequel is here!

After the success of Tommy Texter, Cineplex wanted to continue the series. If you search around, you can see that calling someone a 'Tommy Texter' has worked it's way into casual language, at least in Canada. Here's hoping Sally can be as well known. For a little help, Tommy can be seen ever so briefly in this spot, but you'll have to look very hard.

A spot I produced by Goodspeed Productions for Cineplex Entertainment. Part of a series of etiquette spots to be played in theaters across the country.

Creative concept and script by Darren Solomon at Cineplex Entertainment.  Produced, illustrated, and animated by Brad Goodspeed.  Music composed by Colin Kelday at Spleener Records and Media.  Post sound mix by Sebastien Breton.

Enjoy it at higher quality here.

Express Tickets

This is a piece I recently completed for Hatch Animation in Nova Scotia, with Mike Hachey and Julian Marentette as producers.

I designed the concept based on a script provided by Hatch.

Storyboard design, illustration, animation done by Goodspeed Productions. 3D text animation by Stephen Blacker at Hatch.

I'm very happy with the way this spot turned out, as the client was initially hesitant based on the dark visual style.

Thankfully, with a little creative nudging from myself and the producers, the spot ended up looking almost exactly how I conceived it.

The client wanted high tech, but as I laughed about later when I realized it, whenever I hear 'high-tech' my mind immediately goes to 'retro-high-tech', and that's what I designed. While I'm sure that's not what they originally wanted, this project had absolutely the fewest revisions of anything I've worked on.

The Most Beautiful Animation I've Ever Seen

Beatles_rock_band_pete_candeland

Excuse the hyperbole of the title, but I just finished watching this and I'm still blown away.

I guess if you've played the 'Rock-Band: Beatles' video game you've seen this before, but I hadn't done either.

What an absolutely fantastic piece, combining techniques in a brilliant way, while exhibiting profound talent and vision.

See below for the video.

Directed by Pete Candeland and made by the folks at Passion Pictures

Embracing the Third Dimension

Just in case my last post sounded like I was coming down on the 3D guys, here's some beautiful work from that side of things.
