Hellizondo's Tiki Island

Haunted Tiki Island

As you well know, dear reader, I try to bring a mix of science and art to these pages. Yet as you no doubt have noticed, recently there's been a lot of Halloween content thrown into the mix as well. In my never ending quest to bring you the most current coverage of the issues that matter most, what better to discuss than a (still unofficial) holiday that has already gone by?

Lights-on Walkthrough of the Dent Schoolhouse

Dent
The Dent Schoolhouse

There's not a lot of original content in today's post, I'll admit. Normally I won't publish material here without at least a few things to say about it, but since the following video was broken up into three parts, the best way I could think to share them was in a single blog post.

The World's Most Beautiful Haunted House

Banner
Sorry folks, I just can't stop talking about Halloween these days.

Ever since I joined the Canadian Haunters Association, it's been all that's on my mind. Last night was the CHA's November pub meet, and by attending I had a chance to talk shop with all sorts of seasoned scare-mongers. The ideas they shared with me were invaluable, and my 2012 haunt will benefit from their advice.

And yet when I returned home from the event, my appetite for all things spook-tacular was still unsatisfied. So I jumped on the web, started searching for examples of other home haunts, and happened upon something truly astounding.

Haunted House 2011

Halloween-poster

Boo!

Halloween is done, my body aches from head to toe, and hundreds of children in my neck of the woods now have slightly more demented nightmares. I'm happy to report that this year's 'greatest day' was a resounding success. We had more people than ever before, from kids to adults to the elderly, and it really feels like we frightened them all.

Another Haunted Home

Legacy

Halloween is nigh, and the nightmare making is in full effect, so a super quick post follows. Here goes.

Friday's tour through one of Toronto's brilliant homemade haunts inspired me, so last night I took a trip to see another nightmarish display. This time it was Legacy of Horror, and I was able to have a nice long chat with its creator about all things haunted-house related.

Next Level Haunted House

Hh2
A tour of a really serious haunted house - and I'm too scared to be jealous!

Halloween's a busy time around these parts. The haunted house construction is in full swing, and I spent a good portion of the day painting props with fake blood, hanging fabric, and building makeshift furniture.

Tonight the wife dragged me away from it all just long enough for a nice meal out, and afterwards she convinced me to go exploring. See, Halloween is such a busy time that I never get to see any of the other haunts in town. Tonight my bride convinced me to do just that, and man was it inspiring.

A Week Away from the Greatest Day

Haunted House Time!

Almost every year since forever I've had a haunted house in my garage, and every year it becomes a bigger and bigger show. Last year we rented a giant tent for the driveway, and this year I've built a PVC structure to go inside that tent. (creating a tent within a tent) Here's a little video showing how that all works.

Can You Guess this Scary Sound?

Banner2

Did you know I do a haunted house? Yeah, pretty much continuously for almost 20 years now. You can see a video of last years's event here.

In any case, for this year I've been working on a soundtrack to use, and although there are all kinds of different sounds mixed in there, I decided to incorporate one sound any science fan should know.

Halloween 2010

Danme

So some of you may have noted in a previous post that I do this haunted house every year.  Been doing it ever since I was 17 years old, most of the time with the help of my little bro.

This year the two of us spent more time together than any since we were kids, and had lots of opportunities to plan out our favourite day of the year.  Usually this was done over a few pints before seeing a movie, so the ideas started getting a little bit 'out there'.
