If you're like me, you've always had to settle for your own version of cool. By that I mean, if nobody else is going to call you cool, you might as well redefine the word to make it inclusionary of you. So if you can't pull off the whole "leather jacket" and/or "golden tooth" version of coolness, why not broaden the definition to include pocket protectors?

A Love Song for Love Songs - The Podumentary

Lovesong

What's this you ask?  A documentary?

Not really, rather, a podumentary.  That means I took the audio from one of my podcasts, and turned it into a little short film.  It was quite a bit of work, so if you enjoy it, please share it with your friends on Facebook or Twitter.

The title betrays how I feel about music, something that profoundly serves to both express and fuel human creativity.  The message of this piece is an attempt to celebrate music from a scientifically informed position, as well as portray the beauty that we humans bring into the Universe.

Why does music rock so hard? What about it makes it endlessly interesting, utterly soul nourishing, and so thoroughly distracting from the work I'm supposed to be doing?

Come on in and enjoy a 'podumentary' you can dance to! We'll look at the value music has, where it came from, and why we should never stop wigglin' our butts.

Your feedback is welcome either in the comments section below or through social networking.  Again, please share this post with a few friends if you enjoyed it.

Amen Brother

I won't comment much on this brilliant video, lest I taint the message.

Please watch it all the way through if you're at all interested in the music of the 90's, but especially if you work in media and like me have felt handcuffed by copyright laws. This guy makes some excellent points, and really put some thought into this piece.

Thanks to Stefan Powell for the share.

Do NOT Watch This Horsebleep Movie

'What the Bleep Do We Know?'

0.5/5 Stars

A tragic example of pseudoscientific fuzzy thinking.  I couldn't finish it.

There's absolutely zero intellectual value in this picture.  It's just filled with deep sounding utterances, which only sound deep because they're hard to understand, which are only hard to understand because they're nonsensical.

Trash, garbage, an insult to the mind of the viewer... utterly void of meaning.

And it's one of the highest grossing 'documentaries' ever.

Oceans on the Internet

'One Ocean', David Suzuki's documentary series that I worked on recently for CBC, has a great web resource attached to it.

One Ocean Online is a dynamic and multifaceted website where you can watch the documentaries themselves, as well as additional content. There's lots of interactive things to see and do as well.

If you have kids who are interested in the oceans and the environment, or if you're interested yourself, have a look.
