Two very short bits of science-fiction

Banner

Genesis and Soul Bot
by Andreas Wannerstedt

We're not here to have a serious discussion about science today folks. Nor are we here to discuss the plausibility of the events that take place in either of the following ultra-short films. According to the artist, Andreas Wannerstedt, they live squarely in the realm of science fiction, and should be treated as such.

Meet Buck: a fun and stylishly animated short

Meetbuck01ban
Meet Buck
by TeamCerf

Here's a great little short that uses every smidgen of it's run time to entertain you. Chock full of smiles, thrills, and gorgeous animation, Meet Buck is sure to be the cutest thing you'll see today. From beginning to end it certainly had me grinning. (Wait for the 'almost' kiss)

Lumaajuuq: A dark and beautiful short film

Lum
Sorry for the week-long hiatus folks. I've been unbelievably busy... believe me! Here's something cool to watch until I find to time to write another proper article. Stay tuned!

While searching for some style references for an upcoming project, I decided to check out the latest from one of my favourite animators: Daniel Gies. Daniel is an extremely talented artist, and his portfolio is filled with just the sorts of projects I'd love to do more of. What's inspiring is that like me, (and unlike many animators who work with characters) Daniel is an After Effects guy! See my previous post on his work here.

Animating another world

Sascha
Globosome FMX Trailer
by Sascha Geddert

It's been awhile since I've featured some motion graphics on this site. I suppose that's because I'm trying as hard as heck to keep the subject matter within a more constrained range of topics, lest my readers begin to wonder if I'm suffering from some severe version of attention deficit disorder.

A lovely short for a lazy Sunday

Waveform1
Tactile Waveforms
by Süperfad

What to post on a lazy Sunday morning? Sure, there are some ideas making banging noises upstairs in the old noggin, but none of them are finished baking yet. I also have a few recently completed projects that I could talk about, (and one really awesome one still in production) but, dangit, I just don't feel like it.

The Holy Chicken of Life & Music

Chicken

The Holy Chicken of Life & Music
Directed by: Christos Lefakis, Yannis Konstantinidis

Sometimes you struggle coming up with the title of a blog post, especially when you're featuring a piece of content that already has one. You usually don't want to reuse the same title, but rather choose something complementary to it; a heading that tells the story of what is to be seen, and with the power to draw in readers.

Pretty Much the Most Brilliant Short Film Ever

Backwater
The Backwater Gospel
Directed by Bo Mathorne

I know I'm guilty of hyperbole from time to time. "The best" this, or "the greatest" that. It's actually intentional - calling something "the best" is really just a fun way to communicate my enthusiasm, usually employed hot off the heels of experiencing the thing I'm enthusiastic about. I figure, why hide my excitement with anything other than hyperbole, you know?

Animated Dancers Shake Their Butts; For Charity!

Oli
2011 Event Animated Intro
by Brad Goodspeed

Some of you may remember my post about last year's Outside Looking In (OLI) show, in which I detailed some of the great things that the program, and it's founder Tracee Smith, do for aboriginal communities. Quickly once again, OLI takes kids from remote aboriginal villages, many of whom have never left their reservations, and teaches them modern dance. Those that survive the grueling program, and most don't, get to travel to Toronto to dance in the annual OLI show at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.

Absolutely Awesome Motion Graphics

Mint2
Canadian Royal Mint - "Parks Canada"
by Y&R (full credits below)

If anyone's an avid reader of this site (cue the sound of a hollow wind) they may remember my recent take down of a friend for his love of coin collecting. And yet here I am now, showing you nothing other than a commercial for coin collecting. What gives?

Strangeness in Space

Astronomersdream
The Astronomer's Dream
by Malcolm Sutherland

One thing I'm always reluctant to share with you folks is anything too long, or too strange.

I find people have wildly varying degrees of patience for abstract and weird artistic explorations; and as we all know, the internet only serves to drive our collective attention span for everything even lower.* While my personal threshold for artsy fartsy peculiarity is on the high side, I understand that for many this is not the case.
